A Strong Woman is a Beautiful Woman

Life is Like a Cup of Coffee

Life is Like a Cup of Coffee

This video was sent to me and I wanted to share it with you. It’s about how a cup of coffee can show how you cope with the challenges of life. It’s inspiring and an eye-opener.

If you want to read the words they’re written below the video.

Watch and enjoy!

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: “If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups… And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of life we live.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee. Savour the coffee, not the cups! The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

    • Thanks Heather! I like ordinary cups too. I inherited a couple of china cups from my dad after he died. That was 13 years ago and I’ve never drank coffee out of them. Plain cups does the job for me! Have a great weekend. 🙂

  1. Thanks for sharing this, June!
I know I often get caught up in working towards having a happy and fun future. I envision myself traveling, taking long walks on the beach, owning two dogs.
And, recently, I’ve realized that I spend too much time thinking of my “what if” life and not focusing on what I actually be grateful for now! There’s lots for us to be grateful for! But, we are always seeking out something better! Great reminder!

    • You’re welcome Jennifer. I had to share this video because I found it so inspirational.

You’re right about working towards our ideal future and not focusing and enjoying where we’re at now. I think it’s best to live each day as they come. We should be content with what we have and be grateful for the fact that we’re alive. Thinking too hard about the future can cause stress and unnecessary worries.

      Have a great weekend. 🙂

  2. Hey June,

I’ve seen this video and heard this story before and I believe it was a couple of weeks ago that I shared what you said on my Facebook page. “The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.” Amen to that and thanks for sharing this. Wonderful to read and wish everyone would remember this as they start a each new day.

    • Thanks Pas Paul. Life is indeed like a cup of coffee. Just like the different types of coffee, life is diverse. We live it according to our hopes and expectations.
