3 Fun Things for Single Mothers to do on Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day if you’re single and raising your child or children alone. Mother’s Day is for celebrating your mother. But what about you? Who is celebrating you? After all, you’re a mother as well. Today is when you’re supposed to pamper and spoil your mother, but who will be pampering you?
If you’ve got big kids, they can give you an unforgettable day. But what if your little ones are babies or toddlers? They can’t do anything for mummy. So, get a babysitter for the day. You need some special me time to focus on yourself. Make your day one to remember.
After you’ve had your bath or shower in the morning, dress like you’re going out on a date. Put on your best perfume and make up. Go to Cafe Nero, Starbucks or your local coffee shop. Order a delicious Latte with lashing of cream on top. Or whatever coffee or hot chocolate you like to drink. Then find a nice quiet corner, sit down and sip your drink, slowly. Enjoy every mouthful. Stay there for as long as you like, relax and enjoy your drink. Watch people do their own thing. It’s therapeutic you know. Try it and see for yourself. After you’ve finished, go for a leisurely stroll on the high street or through the park before going home.
Get a DVD, grab a bowl of popcorn, put up your feet up and watch a film. It’s part of your escape for the day, from the stress of life as a single mother.
Terms of Endearment
A classic film starring Shirley MacLaine, about a love-hate relationship between a mum and her daughter. As they get older, they try to come to terms with their differences. It’s well acted with deep meaning about a mother and daughter relationship.
Another timeless classic, and one to watch if you want to have a laugh. Although, the memory of Robin Williams might cast a shadow of sadness over the film. However, it’s a great film about the lengths a father would go, to stay in the lives of his children. I’ve watched it countless times and enjoyed it each time.
It’s time to pamper yourself. Order your favourite takeaway. If you’ve got a dining table, decorate it with some candles. Sit around the dining table and eat your meal. Have a glass of wine with it. Afterwards, take the candles in the living room to create a warm ambiance. Put on a relaxing CD, soak in the music and do nothing. Just relax and enjoy being alone. You deserve it.
